Our Story

Bau Wow Haus Salon was founded in 2023 by partners Amara and Crystina McDonough after they couldn’t find any available groomers for their Standard Poodle, Makkachin. Not one to be stymied by being told ‘no’, Crystina decided to go after an accredited grooming certification for herself so she could ensure Makkachin always turned heads, and she is the proud graduate of the iPet program, holding a Level 3 accreditation in Dog Grooming and Salon Management. Crystina is passionate about dogs and dog grooming (ESPECIALLY poodles), and she is always pursuing further training, experience, and schooling through community and additional grooming classes. Amara is, of course, the responsible business owner and bookkeeper, always keeping appointments on track!

Our Policies

The safety of your dog is of the utmost importance to us, and communication is key for a successful ongoing partnership to care for your pet. Please review the below policies and procedures before your visit.

  • Your dog must be healthy. Grooming may expose underlying skin or health problems which the salon cannot be held liable for. We will inform you if we notice any possible issues, but we are not veterinary practitioners, and we cannot diagnose or medically treat your dog. All questions of health are the owner’s responsibility; seek out the advice of a professional. Services may be suspended if our care team becomes concerned about your dog’s welfare due to undisclosed medical conditions, and no refund of the groom will be offered. The grooming of elderly dogs is entirely at the owner’s risk.
  • We are unable to accept dogs which are in heat or are pregnant.
  • The dog must be up to date with all applicable vaccines. An unvaccinated dog puts itself & others at risk. We may request proof of vaccination for record keeping purposes.
  • You must advise us if your dog is aggressive with people/dogs, and whether a muzzle can be used if required. We reserve the right to refuse to provide grooming services if the dog’s temperament is found to be incompatible with grooming or puts the dog or the groomer at risk of injury. No refund of deposit will be given if the owner fails to disclose temperament issues upon arrival.
  • Bau Wow Haus cannot be held responsible for any adverse reactions to products used such as shampoos, conditioners, colognes, and ear cleaners. Any known allergies should be disclosed to the groomer prior to appointment.
  • The owner must recognise, understand, and agree that whilst every care and attention will be given to their pet, they are still accepted at the owner’s risk. Vet contact information must be provided so that in the event of a veterinary emergency, a vet may be called. Unless it can be clearly shown we are liable, all costs in connection with and in the carrying out of their instructions will be at the owner’s expense. We recommend all dogs be insured. We will immediately notify you of any issue if veterinary intervention is being sought.
  • Payment sans deposit is due upon pick-up. Our salon estimates are based on an average dog of the breed, and they assume the dog is presented in good condition and of sound temperament. Additional charges will apply for the extra time and products involved in grooming neglected coats, excess de-matting, excess de-shedding, extreme dirt, and for dogs whose temperament or health issues require more time to complete.
  • By delivering the dog to our salon, the owner understands that dogs with excess matting may be incompatible with the owner’s grooming wishes and may require extra clipping. Our interest is the care and safety of your dog, and we will not put any dog through what we consider to be excess pain if the coat condition is found to be poor. We will advise you if we intend to clip your dog shorter due to matting. No refund of the visit will be extended if the owner refuses services due to poor condition of the coat.
  • We will not perform any grooming procedure that causes pain or an excess level of stress or anxiety. Sometimes this can include nail trimming. In these cases, we may need to refer you to a vet for sedation.
  • We do not have holding crates or facilities for extra dogs; we will call 15 minutes prior to your dog being ready for collection. Once 15 minutes have elapsed after the arranged collection time, a 15 euro charge will be assessed, or 20 euro for half an hour. We kindly ask all clients to collect their dogs in a timely manner and allow sufficient time for traffic.
  • A full bladder or bowel can be very uncomfortable for a dog whilst it is being groomed. Please ensure that your pet has been toileted before bringing them to the salon.
  • Please note that dogs with fleas cannot be groomed. If your dog has fleas, please fully treat them prior to your visit. If your dog is brought to us with infestation which is discovered after the groom has started, we will be unable to complete the groom and a flea surcharge of 20 euros will apply to cover the cost of flea elimination.
  • We do not offer any anal gland emptying as this procedure is recommended to be carried out by a veterinary surgeon. We also do not offer any inner ear hair plucking or teeth cleaning due to possible adverse reactions.
  • If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with the treatment received, please advise within 2 business days so we can do our best to rectify the issue. Your satisfaction is important to us. We take great pride in our service and want you, and your dog, to be happy.
  • Bau Wow Haus keeps detailed records of all dogs, including treatments, attitude, and condition. New
    clients must sign a disclaimer form and some personal details will be retained by Bau Wow Haus Salon. Client data will be treated in accordance to the data protection principles of the Data Protection Act and will not be shared with 3rd parties.
  • Your dog's safety and wellbeing are our priorities, and every effort will be made to ensure this. We are fully insured and certified iPet Level 3 dog groomers. However, please be aware that working with animals and sharp tools means that unfortunately accidents (including cuts, nicks, scratches, over trimming of nails etc.) can occasionally happen. Should an incident occur, no liability will be accepted. Similarly, no responsibility will be taken for any irritation, abrasion, or hair loss due to any pre-existing skin condition, or because of the grooming process. We will immediately inform you of any problems encountered during your dog's groom.

Cancellation/No Show Policy:

Please understand that when you forget or cancel an appointment without enough notice, we miss the opportunity to fill that appointment time, and clients on our waiting list miss the opportunity to receive our services. We therefore cannot provide any exceptions to this policy, and the following fees and terms apply:

A 15 euro nonrefundable booking fee will be collected at the time of booking. This fee will be deducted from your final bill. Should the appointment be cancelled or rescheduled 48 hours or more before the booking, this fee can be applied to your rescheduled booking.

Cancellations or reschedules giving less than 48 hours’ notice will result in a charge equal to 50% of the grooming price (sans booking fee).

No shows & cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment will be charged 100% of the booking (sans booking fee). 

Appointments have no more than a 15 minute grace period. Clients arriving more than 15 minutes late may have to be rescheduled. Payment for the missed appointment is still due (sans booking fee).

Clients who have missed a previous appointment will be asked to pay in full when booking all future appointments. These payments are non-refundable in the instance of a no show. In the instance of a rescheduling an appointment giving less than 48 hours’ notice, a rescheduling fee of 50% will be deducted from the advance payment.

To book your next appointment, all cancellation and rescheduling fees must be paid in full.
